Services

I offer copyediting, line editing, and proofreading services for fiction, non-fiction, and academic titles. Since these terms can overlap and mean different things depending on where you are on the internet at any given time, I provide my own definitions for clarity.

Proofreading is the last line of defense prior to publication; it addresses lingering typos and minor errors but does not include heavy editing at the sentence level, developmental editing, or fact-checking.

A copyedit involves checking the text for correctness of spelling, grammar, and punctuation as well as consistency, and may include minor rewriting or rearranging of sentences for clarity and reader comprehension.

Line editing is a more intensive copyedit that involves heavier rewriting, rearranging, or reshaping at the sentence-level, really focusing on improving the text beyond just spelling, grammar, and clarity. Line editing is often of more use for non-native English speakers, as it gives me more room to really sharpen and improve the language.

I provide developmental editing only by special arrangement with individual authors of fiction, and not at all for academic and non-fiction texts.

be the best you can be.
